Wheat is decorticated using suitable machines with rotating abrasive surfaces. The wheat grain loses the outer layers of the pericarp: this results in grain that can be milled without the fungal spores that accumulate in the outer layers of the husk and with a higher yield and quality of semolina.
The Dry Vertical Decorticator mod. SBR-SV 50/60-T, designed by Sangati Berga, consists essentially of three elements: the external housing (fixed), the rotor and the motorization. The raw product enters from the top and is dosed by means of a manually operated lever. It is then evenly distributed by a screw placed at the highest position of the rotor and, before being discharged by the distributor, it must pass through a series of rotating abrasive stones, passing between them and the suitably perforated metal screen (sieve). Four adjustable retaining plates allow the intensity of the desired work to be determined. The waste obtained from this operation is then sieved through the screen, which holds the wheat, thanks to an external fan which depresses the entire body of the machine.
In order not to excessively reduce the pressure inside the machine body, the outlet is fitted with a regulating valve, which thanks to a counterweight remains closed until it is overcome by the weight of the product.
